▪THE CLASSIC TREK TO MOUNT EVEREST BASE CAMP ▪GOKYO LAKES - THE HIGH ROUTE TO MT EVEREST ▪NEW DATE FOR THE DOLPO & SNOW LEOPARD TREK ▪FEBRUARY'S ADVENTURE BLOGS, NEWS AND VIEWS
Hello Everyone!
The Spring 2012 trekking season is almost upon us! As the Khumbu region of Nepal is arguably the world's most famous trekking destination, this month we are highlighting the classic walks to the base camp of Mount Everest.
All the Best, Andy and the One World Trekking Team
Make 2012 the year you visit Nepal’s famous Everest region and hike the spectacular trails to the world’s highest peaks!
We are once again offering two fantastic ways to turn your dream of trekking to Everest Base Camp into a reality! As with most of our classic Himalayan treks, we arrange the Everest Base Camp Trek and the Gokyo Lakes to Mount Everest Trek around your schedule on the dates you or your group (1 to 12 people) need to travel. Your trip is always guaranteed to go and you’ll be accompanied by our experienced Sherpa guides.
Mount Everest Base Camp Trek, 17 days The Classic Trek to the World's Tallest Mountains
The world’s most famous trek begins with an exciting flight to the mountain airstrip at Lukla (9,200 feet). We are now in the Buddhist ‘Land of the Sherpa’ and follow in the footsteps of past expeditions. En route to Everest Base Camp, we’ll be greeted by colorful prayer flags, mani walls, monasteries and chorten memorials marking the entrance to the famous villages of Namche Bazaar and Tengboche. The high points of our itinerary are the hike up Kala Pattar (18,200 feet) for a panoramic view of Everest, Lhotse and Nuptse and, of course, the hike from Gorakshep along the Khumbu Glacier to Mount Everest Base Camp.
Gokyo Lakes to Mount Everest Trek, 21 days High Route to Everest over the Renjo & Cho La passes
This unique trekking route is a high-level alternative to the traditional Everest Base Camp Trek. By taking the path northwest out of Namche Bazaar, we are not only able to add a second high pass to our trek (the Renjo La) but also avoid the majority of other trekkers and make a spectacular circuit of the Khumbu region.
By crossing the Renjo La pass (17,520 feet) we enter the beautiful Gokyo Valley, situated west of Everest Base Camp. The summit of Gokyo Ri (17,585 feet) is an optional hike providing an excellent perch to view the world's highest peak. We’ll enter the Everest Valley via the Cho La pass (17,780 feet), and begin the hike north to Everest Base Camp and Kala Pattar. We exit this stunning area along the classic expedition route back to Lukla.

Manasseh and Karma enjoying their visit on top of Kala Pattar!
|
|
Kala Pattar (18,200 feet), meaning 'black rock' in Nepali, appears as a brown bump situated beneath the spectacular south face of Mount Pumori. The hike up Kala Pattar is famous to trekkers in the Khumbu region, as it provides incredible views down to Everest Base Camp and up to the summit of Mount Everest. Most people don’t realize that you cannot see Everest from the base camp.
The ascent of Kala Pattar takes approx. 2 hours and begins at the village of Gorakshep (16,950 feet), which at one time acted as the original base camp for Mount Everest.
