| “WINTER HIKING ON THE EDGE OF THE SAHARA” ▪ Canyons, valleys, peaks and Kasbahs
Our winter trek in Morocco takes us to the edge of the Sahara. Sandwiched between the High Atlas Mountains of Morocco and the Sahara, the remote mountain region of Jebel Sahro is the perfect destination for a winter hiking vacation. Our 9 day walking adventure takes us from Marrakech to the heart of the Jebel Sahro. We'll be trekking amongst craggy peaks, desert plateau, sandstone pillars, strangely shaped rock formations and through the occasional green oasis, where we find the red mud-built villages of the indigenous Berber people. Walking along quiet trails through a variety of spectacular Jebel Sahro scenery, we also have the option of hiking to the summit of Jbel Sarhro at 8,502 feet. During the winter season we will experience warm 80 degrees days, crystal clear blue sky and ideal hiking conditions with spectacular views to the north towards the sparkling snow-capped peaks of the High Atlas Mountains. 2012 TRIP DEPARTURE DATE: The Morocco – Wild Jebel Sahro Hike is part of our Worldwide Adventure Tours Series. MOROCCO – WILD JEBEL SAHRO |

Morocco, officially the Kingdom of Morocco, is a country located in North Africa. It has a population of nearly 33 million and also primarily administrates the disputed region of the Western Sahara. The history of the country's known human civilization spans over 8000 years, andit was founded by the Berbers who are the original inhabitants. Morocco is a de jure constitutional monarchy with an elected parliament and the King of Morocco holds vast executive powers. Morocco has a rich indigenous culture and civilization, and its cuisine has long been considered to be one of the most diverse in the world. The population is probably 40% to 55% Berber, partly mixed with ethnic Arabs. Although Arabic is the official language, modern studies show that the Arabization process in Morocco was mostly linguistic. Berber speaking Moroccans can be divided in three main dialectal groups: the Riffians, the Chleuh and the Central Moroccan Atlas inhabitants.
