GHOREPANI AND POON HILL TREK
A Short Trek Beneath the great Annapurna Mountain Range
11 days - Colorful Nepalese Countryside - Sunrise on Poon Hill - Hindu Culture

Macchapuchare (The Fish Tail) in the Annapurna Mountains of Nepal
Barely 25 miles north of Pokhara sits the most beautiful mountain range in Nepal - the Annapurnas. It was not until the mid-1950s that these majestic mountains were first explored by the outside world. Today the Annapurna Range is one of the most popular trekking destinations in the world, and with good reason - it is easily accessible from Pokhara and offers tremendous potential for scenic walks and for alpine exploration in a splendid high Himalayan setting. The mountains forming the great Annapurna Range boast no fewer than eight peaks over 7000 meters, including Annapurna South, Fang, Annapurna 1 (8091 meters), Gangapurna, Annapurna III and Annapurna V. Macchapuchare (Fish Tail) is surely the most famous mountain in this range, standing only 23 feet (7 meters) below the magical 7000 meters. Our Ghorepani and Poon Hill Trek is our newest walk in the Annapurna area offering time-strapped travelers the chance to experience a taste of the wonders of trekking in Nepal - big mountain views, picturesque farming villages, friendly locals and rich Hindu and Buddhist culture. We begin in sub-tropical heat, pretty villages and neatly terraced rice fields. Gaining height gradually, we enjoy several days of pleasant ridge walking with a mix of abundant forest and scattered areas of farmed land. Finally, beyond the last of the bamboo and rhododendron woodland, the valleys narrow and lead to the high hilltop village of Ghorepani and a superb viewpoint overlooking the great rift of the Kali Gandaki Valley, the deepest gorge in the world. From Poon Hill above Ghorepani the dawn views of Dhaulagiri, Fish Tail and nearby Tukuche Peak are outstanding.
