Welcome to the New Year!
"Be careful going in search of adventure - it's ridiculously easy to find". - William Least Heat Moon
All the Best, Andy and the One World Trekking Team
At the foot of the Himalayas is a region of Nepal that has been virtually untouched by modern times. "Mustang," according to photographer Weidman, "is arguably the best-preserved example of traditional Tibetan life left in the world. Read full article on NPR.
We offer you three ways to explore Nepal's Forbidden Kingdom...
Mustang was founded by Ame Pal, who set himself up as king of this Tibetan territory in 1380. The present raja of Mustang and his family can trace their ancestry directly back some 25 generations to Ame Pal. Because of its sensitive border location, on the north side of the Annapurna Massif, Mustang was inaccessible to foreign visitors until 1991. The upper (northern) part of Mustang remains a secluded and quite secretive Buddhist enclave, which previously prospered as a result of its strategic location on an important trade route between Nepal (and India) and Tibet, along the great natural highway of the Kali Gandaki Valley. Offering straightforward moderately strenuous trekking on good trails, and at relatively modest altitudes, a trek into Mustang is a fantastic introduction to the first-time trekker in Nepal or for the more experienced person looking for a unique trip. One World Trekking offers three unique trips into this landscape quite unlike anything that is to be found elsewhere in Nepal.
Classic Mustang Trek: 16 days, available March to Oct Mustang & Luri Gompa Trek: 20 days, available March to Oct NarPhu to Mustang Traverse: 27 days, Sept. 23 to Oct. 19
Bhutan: Chomolhari & Laya Trek: 2012 Group Date is September 23 to October 9. The flight into Paro Airport is just the beginning of the adventure! 17 days, 13 day circuit trek of Bhutan's highest peaks
Bhutan's long-established trekking route from Chomolhari Base Camp north to Laya Village still remains Bhutan's finest mountain walk. This hiking route offers a great variety of conditions; from picturesque farmland and magical forest, to alpine pastureland and high mountain passes. In this country known as ‘‘the Land of the Thunder Dragon,” the fortunate visitor will find a rare combination of harmony and accord, among incredible natural beauty.

Dramatic take-offs and landings are a part of travel in the Himalayan mountains.

Paro, Bhutan: Passengers flying to this remote region may have to take something to steady their nerves. At almost 8,000ft above sea level, this tiny airport is nestled among the steep-sided mountains. Only 8 pilots in the world are qualified to land in Paro, which is okay as Druk Air only has two airplanes. Check out the Youtube video of a landing at Paro Airport.
