On January 15, 2012 two of Nepal’s prominent mountaineers will embark on a 1,055 mile hike lasting 120 days. Their goal is to bring tourists and investment to less visited and underdeveloped parts of the country, and highlight the effects of climate change. Apa Sherpa and Dawa Steven Sherpa will trek from the eastern Kangchenjunga region to the far west district of Darchula. The Great Himalaya Trail passes through some of the most rugged and beautiful landscapes on earth and eight of the world’s tallest peaks.
