tibet kawa karpo pilgrimage"It is for us Tibetans a route that is both divine and eternal" -Dorje a 76 year old Tibetan pilgrim
A sacred pilgrimage around one of the Tibetan world’s three great sacred mountain ranges, the Kawa Karpo of northwestern Yunnan province. The route, which roves up to 15,090 feet and descends to 4,600 feet has been called ‘the eternal road’ for its still magnificent and vital role in the lives of some of the planet’s most remote mountain peoples. To succeed one total kora is for many a dreamed of lifetime goal. For centuries, pilgrims, warriors, and nomads alike traveled the span of the Himalayas to circumambulate around the white-capped spires including the yet unclimbed 22,107 foot / 6,740 meter Kawa Karpo peak. Part of the Buddhist’s goal of reaching sacred sites to access nirvana, it remains a route of isolated splendor and physical challenges. This great pilgrimage route passes beneath one of the most formidable and stunning mountain ranges on the globe through areas of zero pollution and sacred sites. It remains unchanged as one of the great spiritual journeys on the earth.

The Kawa Karpo Pilgrimage Trek in Tibet is part of our Epic Himalayan Journey Series! These trips are led by one of our experienced Western Trekking Guides and represent the gourmet trekking offerings of the great Himalayan Range.
